Job title: Digital Collections Manager

Job description: "The Digital Collections Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures for Digital Asset Storage and Management that ensure the integration of corporate digital assets and associated metadata, integrity and of the data, maintenance of security, and appropriate controls for disaster recovery of the database.
In addition, the post-holder will work with the museum’s ICT department and the Collections Care Manager to plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure, and contribute to the Collections Disaster Recovery Plan.
The DCO will be responsible for the planning and monitoring of digital storage for collections material, developing appropriate file structures and protocols for digital transfer. The post-holder will also be expected to verify the integrity of digital assets and associated metadata – ensuring accuracy, consistency and validity. They will also develop and advise on the use of standards and formats for different types of metadata, whether internal or outsourced. The DCO will be expected to maintain an awareness of intellectual property rights, and also to monitor technical development and obsolescence in the sector.
The post-holder will be involved in monitoring digitisation projects and ensuring that this integrates with all other digitisation activities, with the redevelopment of the web site and with related initiatives including introduction of a new Collection Management System and Digital Asset Management Systems and associated e-commerce. The DCO will also play a key role in developing proposals for extending the digitisation programme and in assisting the Museum in seeking external funding and commercial opportunities.
The DCO will see through implementation of the new DAMS within the agreed timeframe established by the CCMS/LMS Steering Group
The DCO will be expected to liaise with the supplier and key staff in the collections division to ensure the DAMS database is configured to fit specific functional needs across the museum’s sites and departments.
